Things to do in Red Bank – YESTERcades

Since its opening in 2011, YESTERcades has become a modern Red Bank staple. Owner Ken Kalada originally set out to recapture the fun and community spirit of the arcades of his youth, and in doing so provided Red Bank with something truly unique. YESTERcades, in addition to being the only retro arcade of its kind in the area, offers an overwhelming amount of games including:

  • Over 80 vintage arcade games, including classics like Space Invaders and Pac-Man
  • 16 pinball machines
  • Table games including pool, ping pong, and air hockey
  • A wide selection of videogame consoles including everything from the original Nintendo Entertainment System to the Playstation 4, and extensive game libraries for every console.

As Kalada said in a 2014 Asbury Park Press article, “If you’ve played a video game sometime between the mid-’70s and now, we have it.”

Taking advantage of everything YESTERcades has to offer won’t hurt your wallet, either. The entire gaming floor is available to customers for $8.75 an hour with a one hour minimum. After the first hour, they charge by fifteen minute intervals rounded down. The gaming floor can also be booked for parties and private events. More information can be found on their website.

Because of its late hours (open until 2:00am on Friday and Saturday nights and midnight the rest of the week) and BYOB policy (allowed every night after 9:00pm for guests 21 and over), YESTERcades has become a key part of Red Bank’s nightlife. They also host regular events including tournaments for Super Smash Bros, Goldeneye 64, air hockey, and other games. Their events can be found on their Facebook Page.

YESTERcades has been such a success in Red Bank that Kalada opened a second location in Somerville in 2014. With its impressive selection of games, popular events, and reasonable prices, it’s easy to see why visiting YESTERcades has one of the new favorite things to do in Red Bank for people of all ages.
